Five Owosso girls competed today in the division 2 state finals. First, Katie Clevenger, Malyrie Montroy, Lexi Martenis and Molly Hart ran the 4x100m relay. The girls ran a fantastic race and a season best 51.09, breaking their own school record but finished in 9th place; just one place shy of all-state status and a state medal. The very next event Kaitlyn Owens raced in the 400m dash. Kaitlyn ended her Owosso running career with a PR 1:00.14 and another 9th place finish. It was heartbreaking for the girls to be so close to all-state honors, but I can’t be prouder of all of my athletes. For my 4×100 girls, all four girls have the chance to come back and run next year. I am really excited to see what they can do after another year of training. The sky is truly the limit for those four! As for Kaitlyn Owens, I can’t imagine ever having an athlete like her again. Not only is she one of the best athletes Owosso has ever had in any event from the 400 up through the 5k in cross country, she is a phenomenal leader, teammate, and does everything I ask her to do. Saginaw Valley State University has no idea how lucky they are to have landed Kaitlyn as an athlete next year. I can’t wait to see what she can do at the next level!
Thank you for a lot of great memories and an awesome season girls!
