2-2 Athletic Update

 BASKETBALL (BOYS) – Owosso 38, Linden 62 – Gerritt Springsdorf led the Trojans tonight with his first double-double while scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in the defeat by Linden. Jordan Klapko led the Trojans in scoring with 13 points while pulling down 9 rebounds himself. Cole Mallory also had a solid night contributing 9 points and 9 rebounds. It was a tough shooting night for the Trojans as the connected on only 12 of 51 shots.  The Trojans fall to 8-4 (7-3 conference) and play next on Tuesday night at Flushing.

Owosso 42, Flushing 47 – Tough game tonight against league leading Flushing. The Trojans found themselves down early 11-0 off some hot shooting from Flushing but the Trojans fought back possession to make the game very interesting. Flushing held a four-point lead at half-time and extended it to six points on their opening possession. the Trojans were able to cut it to 3 on a free thrown by Andrew Dallas but the Raiders extended the lead back to six 32-26 only to see the lead trimmed back to 3 on a 3-point shot by Jordan Klapko. The fourth quarter started with the Raiders holding a four-point lead. The Raiders were not able to build their lead by any more than four points for most of the fourth quarter. The Trojans were able to cut the lead at 39-38 but the Raiders came down and made a 3-point play to extend it back to four points. The Trojans pulled to within two points at 44-42 but were unable to score in the final 53 seconds to bring the game back to even.
For most of the game the Trojans were playing with players in foul trouble and Dylan Horn and Zach Smith stepped off the bench to provide some valuable minutes for the team. Dakota Wells put in a great effort until he went down with a knee injury. We are hoping the best for him!
The Trojans move to 8 and 5 (7-4 conference) and play at Brandon on Friday.
Jordan Klapko had his fourth double-double this season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Carson Bornefeld contributed 11 points in the game tonight.

BASKETBALL (GIRLS) – Owosso 46, Linden 30 – Brittany Barone’s double-double, 13 points, 11 rebounds lead the Trojans past Linden Friday night 46-30. Eight Owosso players scored including Ashley Abram’s 10 points and Anna Raffaelli 7. Raffaelli had 7 rebounds and 7 assists to add to Brooke Edington’s 11 rebounds.

Owosso 17, Flushing 53 – Flushing beat the Trojans 53-17. Anna Raffaelli lead Owosso with 5 points. Flushing hit 5 1st half 3 pointers.

 

BOWLING (BOYS) – Owosso 21, Holly 9: Owosso Boys vs Holly. Baker games 180,163 total 343 vs 137,156 total 293. High series 2185-2125. High games: Collin Wood 216, Jhakab Hickey 211, Braden Triggs, 226, Thomas Trecha 210, Brendan Coffman 176. Won 21-9.

2nd MATCH: Ow. Baker games 174,199 total 373 vs 186,178 total 364. Total series 1046,1032-2078-with Bakers 2451-2110. High games: Jhakab Hickey 244,268 TOTAL SERIES 512, Collin Wood 241,228, Thomas Trecha 210, Braden Triggs 191, Brendan Coffman 160.   WON 25-5 This was Awesome Series & Games today!!

BOWLING (GIRLS) – Owosso 16, Holly 14 – Baker games 130, 133 total 263 vs 192,142 total 334. Total series 1889-1522 won 16-14. High games: Laken Williamson 216,181, Ashley Abrams 189,181, Raeanne Forrester 167, Shelby Gokee 164, Marissa Spalding 145.

2nd Match: Owosso 27, Clio 3 – Baker Games 188,157 total 345 vs 132,105 total 237. Total series 1997-1693. High games: Laken Williamson 224,174, Shelby Gokee 190,162, Ashley Abrams 172,177, Marissa Spalding 167, Aubree Irish 140. Won 27-3.

IN CONFERENCE 10-2

COMPETITIVE CHEER – The Owosso Competitive Cheer team won 1st place this week at their home competition! Coach Schneider would like to thank all of the staff and students who attended this weekend, we couldn’t have done it without you! Coach Schneider would also like to say a special thank you to her team for their hard work and dedication, it paid off!

The Owosso Competitive Cheer team competed in Midland last night and took another 1st place trophy home! Congrats! Keep up the hard work!

SWIM & DIVE (BOYS) –  Owosso 95, Charlotte 84 – In a very tight contest Owosso Swim & Dive came out on top by beating Charlotte 95-84. Starting the night out the 200 Medley Relay team of Nathan Gute (back), Jorden Sowash (breast), Parker Omer (fly) and Mitchell Fisher (free) came in 1st place with a 2:10.88. The team of Tyler Hoag (back), Brandon Steinley (breast), Autumn Weir (fly) and Ross Raatz took 3rd with a time of 2:42.92. In the 200 Freestyle Dan Hood took 1st with a 2:02.74 and Garrett Hoag took 3rd with a 2:18.6. In the 200 Individual Medley Brendan Gute took 2nd with a 2:34.52 and Jorden Sowash took 3rd with a 2:46.03. In the 50 Freestyle Parker Omer placed 2nd in 26.33 and Luke Wheeler took 3rd with a 26.94.

In the diving event Fisher was 1st at 223.6, Steinley 2nd at 204.75 and Raatz was 3rd at 189.0. In the 100 Freestyle Luke Wheeler placed 1st at 1:01.35 and Garrett Hoag 2nd at 1:02.07. In the 500 Freestyle Dan Hood took 2nd in 5:33.76. In a screaming fast 200 Freestyle Relay Owosso touched out Charlotte by .4 with the team of Fisher, Omer, Brendan Gute and Dan Hood taking 1st with a 1:43.84. In the 100 Backstroke brothers Brendan and Nathan Gute went 2-3 with a 1:19.65 and a 1:31.27 respectively. In the 100 Breaststroke Jorden Sowash took 2nd with a 1:22.69 and Fisher was 3rd with a 1:26.32. In the final event of the night the 409 Freestyle Relay team of Hood, Wheeler, Garrett Hoag and Brendan Gute were touched out by Charlotte by .5 and took 2nd with a 4:00.92.

Owosso will host Brandon High School Thursday night to honor senior swimmers Dan Hood, Brendan Gute, Mitchell Fisher and Josh Wood.

WRESTLING – Shepherd Invitational – Owosso Wrestling placed 6th out of 16 teams at the John Harris Invitational in Shepherd on Saturday.

Jacob LePain took 4th
Colton Blaha took 1st
Dan Clevenger took 2nd
Dominic Patterson took 2nd

Colton was named MVP of the tournament.

 Owosso 19, Brandon 56; Owosso 14, Flushing 63 – Colton Blaha was 2-0 on the day.
