 BASKETBALL (BOYS)

Owosso 64, Clio 57 – The Trojans defeated Clio in a conference game Friday night at OHS 64-57 in overtime. The Trojans were led by Carson Bornefeld with 15 points. Jordan Klapko added 14 points and Nick Prater finished with 12 points. The Trojans took a commanding lead into the third quarter only to see Clio claw their way back into the game and eventually take the lead at 46-45 with three minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs and Trojans then traded baskets to make the score 48-47. Zach Smith hit a bit 3-pointer for the Trojans with under three minutes left to give the Trojans a two-point lead at 50-48. The Trojans held the lead at 52-48 with under a minute to play but the Mustangs scored the final four points to tie it at 52. Jordan Klapko missed a game winning shot opportunity and the game went into overtime.  The Mustangs got on the board first in the OT and Nick Prater went 1 for 2 at the free throw line but Cole Mallory pulled in an offensive rebound and got the ball to Gerritt Springsdorf who scored and put the Trojans up one. The Trojans did not give up the lead the rest of the way. Nick Prater scored to give the Trojans a 3-point lead. The Trojans held the Mustangs on the next possession and Andrew Dallas was fouled sending him to the line. Dallas went 1 for 2 from the line but Jordan Klapko pulled down another offensive rebound and got the ball Springsdorf who missed the shot but Klapko got another rebound and scored and was fouled and converted the 3-point play to put the game at a two-possession game. From there, the Trojans were able to seal the victory in a hard-fought game.

Owosso 54, Fenton 47 – Carson Bornefeld had a career high 20 points to lead the Trojans to a FML victory tonight at Fenton High School. Jordan Klapko added 10 points and Andrew Dallas scored a career high also dropping in 10 points. The Trojans were down 41 – 34 with a little over five minutes left in the third quarter and went on a 17-0 run that lasted until the 1:28 mark of the fourth quarter to open a 51-41 lead. It was a great defensive effort that carried over to the offensive end and produced the victory. The Trojans are now 5 and 2 (5-1 in conference). The Trojans go to Kearsley for another FML contest on Friday.

BASKETBALL (GIRLS)

Owosso 50, Clio 56 – Visiting league opponent Clio ousted Owosso 56-50 in a hard-fought game. Anna Raffaelli led all scorers with 21 points, 6 assists and 6 steals. Clio had three players in double figures, Brooklyn Ruston 16, Joy Chatlain 15 and Ruby Lovasz with 10.

Owosso 38, Fenton 52 – The Trojan’s were held to just 2 points in the 2nd quarter, proving to be too much of a deficit to overcome the visiting Fenton Tigers. Owosso’s Anna Raffaelli lead all scorers with 15 points, but it wasn’t enough, as Owosso lost to Fenton 52-38. Fenton’s Chloe Idoni had 12 points and teammate Erin Conroy added 11. Owosso’s Lauren Stowe grabbed 6 rebounds. “The team really stepped up the defense against a much taller, stronger Fenton line up.” said Coach Graham. “This was a game that got us back on track defensively, offense will come.”

BOWLING (BOYS)

Owosso Boys vs Brandon won 21-9. Baker Games: 210, 201 = 411 to 203, 194 = 397. High Series 987, 910 total 1897 vs 1044, 870 total 1914. High Games:   Collin Wood 216,221, Braden Triggs 203, 209, Jhakab Hickey 193, Thomas Trecha 195.  Conference 4-3.

Lila Furnish Tournament 1/7/18 at Capitol Bowl (20 Boy teams and 18 girl teams).  Owosso Boys made to the Top 8 (2nd team) and Finish 6th place.   Owosso Girls made Top 8 (7th place) and made to the Top 4 and Finish 3rd Place.

(boys) First Place winner Flushing Raiders, 2Nd place New Lothrop, 3rd Place Swartz Creek, 4th place Clio.  (Girls).  First Place Kearsley, 2nd Place Dakota, 3rd Place Owosso, 4th place Lake Orion.

BOWLING (GIRLS)

Owosso Girls vs Brandon won 22-8. Baker Games: 145,164 = 309 to 152,135 = 287.  High Series 828, 809 total 1637 vs 714, 711 total 1425.  High Games: Raeanne Forrester 207, Ashley Abrams 203, Shelby Gokee 204.

Conference 6-1.

Lila Furnish Tournament 1/7/18 at Capitol Bowl (20 Boy teams and 18 girl teams).  Owosso Boys made to the Top 8 (2nd team) and Finish 6th place.   Owosso Girls made Top 8 (7th place) and made to the Top 4 and Finish 3rd Place.

COMPETITIVE CHEER 

The Owosso Competitive Cheer Team finished 2nd this weekend in Portland with an overall score of 662.  They will be off to their first FML league meet this Wednesday and have set a goal of 675.

SWIM & DIVE (BOYS)

Owosso 78, Corunna 107 – Owosso Boys Swim & Dive lost a non-conference meet to Corunna 107-78. Owosso came out on top by going 1-2 in the 200 Medley Relay with Brendan Gute, Mitchell Fisher, Dan Hood and Garrett Hoag taking 1st place and Nathan Gute, Brandon Steinley, Parker Omer & Jordan Sowash taking 2nd. In the 200 Freestyle Dan Hood set the pace in the 200 Freestyle by taking 1st place in 1:59. In the 200 IM Brendan Gute took 2nd place with a 2:45. Owosso then went 2-3-4 in Diving with Mitchell Fisher taking 2nd, Brandon Steinley taking 3rd and Ross Raatz taking 4th. In the 100 Freestyle Owosso took 1st and 2nd with Luke Wheeler (1:01) just touching in ahead of Garrett Hoag at 1:03. The 500 Freestyle saw Dan Hood back in action and leading the way taking 1st in 5:36. The 100 backstroke saw Brendan Gute leading the way and taking 1st place in 1:15. Owosso then ended the night with a 1st place showing in the 400 Freestyle with the team of Brendan Gute, Wheeler, Hoag and Hood clocking a 4:04.

Owosso 101, Ovid-Elsie 82 – Owosso Boys Swim & Dive swept 10 out of 12 events sinking Ovid-Elsie 101-82. Dan Hood, Brendan Gute & Garrett Hoag each were 4-time event champions for the night.  Starting out the night the 200-medley team of Brendan Gute, Mitchell Fisher, Dan Hood and Garrett Hoag took 1st place with a 2:07.6 and the team of Nathan Gute, Brandon Steinley, Parker Omer and Autumn Weir took 3rd with a time of 2:32.50. In the 200 freestyle Owosso finished 1-2 with Hood in 2:14.5 and Luke Wheeler in 2:34.6. Brendan Gute then took 1st in the 200-individual medley in 2:39.4 with Jordan Sowash following up in 3rd place with a 2:51.1. Garrett Hoag was the 50-freestyle champion with a 27.1 showing.  The Dive team of Mitchell Fisher (224.8), Brandon Steinley (193.5) and Ross Raatz (188.65) went 1-2-3 to give Owosso a major edge over Ovid-Elsie. Dan Hood then came back for another 1st place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:11.9. In a very tight 100 freestyle heat Garrett Hoag came up as the champion with a 1:02.1 and teammate Luke Wheeler followed in 2nd with a 1:02.2. In the distance event Jordan Sowash led the pack in the 500 free and took 1st with a time of 6:49.9. Owosso then took 2nd in the 200 Freestyle relay with the team of Wheeler, Raatz, Omer & Sowash coming in at 1:55.4. In the 100 Backstroke Brendan Gute led the way with his 3rd win of the night by taking 1st place with a 1:15.8. In the 100 Breaststroke Mitchell Fisher took 2nd with a 1:24.1 and ending the meet Owosso finished in 1st and 3rd in the 400 Freestyle relay with the team of Gute, Hoag, Wheeler and Hoag taking 1st with a time of 4:05.64 and the team of Sowash, Nathan Gute, Raatz and Fisher taking 3rd with a time of 4:53.57.

Owosso 124, Kearsley 46 – Owosso Boys Swim & Dive took first in 10 of 12 events against host Kearsley winning the event with a score of 124-46 bringing Owosso’s record to 3-1 on the season. Brendan Gute & Dan Hood once again led the swimmers with each winning 4 events on the night. The Dive team trio of Mitchell Fisher, Brandon Steinley and Ross Raatz once again went 1-2-3 sweeping the Dive events.  Starting off the night the 200 Medley Relay team of Nathan Gute, Jordan Sowash, Parker Omer and Ross Raatz won with a time of 2:21.09. Owosso then came back and swept the 200 Freestyle going 1-2-3 with Dan Hood (2:08.53), Luke Wheeler (2:30.99) and Zak Awery (2:55.88). Brendan Gute and Jordan Sowash then went 1-2 in the 200 Individual Medley with Gute taking 1st in 2:38.57 and Sowash 2nd in 2:46.11. In the 50 Freestyle Garrett Hoag took 2nd with a time of 26.68. The diving events had Fisher taking 1st at a 203.34, Steinley at a 170.60 and Raatz at a 148.55.  In the second half of action Dan Hood and Parker Omer went 1-2 in the 100 Freestyle with Hood going a 1:06.74 and Omer a 1:18.41. In the 100 Freestyle Owosso again went 1-2 with Garrett Hoag and Luke Wheeler touching out in a 1:01.24 and a 1:02.64 respectively. In the 500 Freestyle distance event Jordan Sowash took 1st with a 6:38.4 and Zak Awery followed him up at 2nd with a 7:46.33.  In the 200 Freestyle Relay Owosso again went 1-2 with the team of Dan Hood, Luke Wheeler, Garrett Hoag & Brendan Gute going 1:48.5 and the team of Ross Raatz, Nathan Gute, Parker Omer & Mitchell Fisher taking 2nd at a 1:56.09. In the 100-yard Backstroke Mitchell Fisher took 2nd place with a time of 1:19.92. In the final individual event of the night Brendan Gute won the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:26.01 and Brandon Steinley finished 2nd with a 1:34.66.  The final event of the night Owosso again went 1-2 in the 400-yard Freestyle with the team of Hood, Wheeler, Hoag and Brendan Gute taking 1st place in 4:05.39 and the team of Fisher, Nathan Gute, Omer and Sowash taking 2nd with a time of 4:40.94.

WRESTLING – Defeated Swartz Creek 51-39 and fell in a close match to Linden 34-42.  The Trojans are currently 12-8 on the season.
