The Owosso Trojans defeated the Ionia Bulldogs Tuesday night 124-57. Owosso won 10 of the 12 events and turned in numerous great times for this point of the season. The Trojans have been dominant so far this season winning the Williamston Invitational, The Creek Relay Meet and going 3-0 in non-conference with an average margin of victory of over 50 points. One of the highlights of the night was Mallory Irelan qualifying for the state championship in the 100 free, she had already qualified in the butterfly.
The Trojans got out to quick lead winning the Medley relay with the team of Alexis Chamberlin, Erika Ochodnicky, Mallory Irelan and Katie Clevenger and finishing second was the team of Lily Davis, Faith Gates, Sidney Voss and Rachel Dahl. In the 200 free great swims were turned in Jessa Baumdraher, Lindsey Woodworth, and Emma Schwab. The 3rd event was the 200 IM. Finishing first and third was Allie Pumford and Lily Espinoza, both turned in great times. In the 50 free Erika Ochodnicky placed first, Rachel Dalh came in second and Lily Davis was fifth. Other great times were turned in by Olivia Konsdorf, Venssa Bowers, Liz Vreibel and Ella Smewing. In diving Katie Clevenger and Faith Gates finished first and second. In the butterfly Owosso swept the top three places with Pumford, Espinoza and Madison Livingston came in first, second and third. In the 100 free Mallory Irelan made state time going 56.67 and finishing first. Ochodnicky also had a great swim finishing third. Rachel Dalh turned in a good race placing fourth. In the 500 Voss turned in a lifetime best time to take first by 20 seconds. Baumdraher and Maddy Kregger turned in strong efforts to finish third and fourth. The 200 free relay team of Pumford, Livingston, Espinoza and Clevenger took first place and the team of Davis, Gates, Voss andDahl was second. Alexis Chamberlin lead the way in backstroke while Lily Davis and Lauren Taylor had terrific swims. In the Breaststroke Irelan raced to a first place finish while Livingston had a lifetime best time of 1:31.92. Exchange student Marlene Bucher swam the event for the first time turning in a great swim placing fourth. In the final event the night the relay team of Voss, Pumford, Ochodnicky and Espinoza came home with another first place. The team of Baumdraher, Chamberlin, Dahl and Woodworth came in third.
Owosso will start the conference season with a meet at Kearsley on September 19th at 6pm.
