Times are moving in the right direction for the great majority of Owosso cross-country runners. We had all but three girls run faster than our first meet of the season despite a warm, sunny and mildly hilly course. Kaitlyn Owens led all Owosso athletes with a 4th place finish (20:10.77). Kaitlyn is poised to have a great season and we look forward to seeing how low her time will go. When it was time for the boy to race, the weather cooled slightly and the sun was behind the clouds, where we also saw all but three athletes improve their times. Sam Stechschulte finished as the first Owosso runner and 19th overall (18:25.79). With times dropping and athletes working hard at practice, we are excited to see all the great things that this season will bring.
FOOTBALL – The Trojans fell to Corunna 37-6. Leading performers were: Andrew Convery – 8 carries for 70 yards and a TD. Jayden Guru had 128 all purpose yards. Dakota Garrison – Jakob Hickey – Randy Tarolli and Colton Blaha each had 7 tackles.
GOLF (GIRLS’) – Finished in 8th place (437) in the FML Preseason Tournament.
We had a home match today playing the back nine at OCC. We fell to Fenton 174-210. The medalist for the match was Fenton’s Molly Gundy shooting a 41 followed by Keegan Miller-43, Margaret Berry and Brooke Herbstreit both shooting 45. Our ladies were lead by Izzey Newbury-49, Maddie and Kennedy Krantz each scoring 53, and Morgan Hebekeuser-55. Our
Next match is Sept 6 when we will be hosting Swartz Creek at OCC.
SOCCER (BOYS’) – Owosso 2, Carman-Ainsworth 0 – The Owosso Trojans boys’ soccer team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 2-0 victory over Carman-Ainsworth. Brendan Ihm had his third shutout of the season and improved his goals against average to 0.60. He has only allowed three goals in 5 games so far this year. Owosso dominated most of the game and had many opportunities to score. They capitalized on a throw in that was deflected into the goal in the 23rd minute of the first half. Sam Roose took credit for the goal on another great flip throw that glance off a defender into the goal. Owosso took a 1-0 lead into the half. They came out pressing in the second half and finally in the 67th minute they scored on a great tic tac toe passing play with Noah Jafri heading the ball to Dakota Byles who sprung Parker Omer for a fantastic delayed run down the right side. Omer buried the ball deep into the back of the net with a well finished strike. The defensive line of Michael Snow, Trajan Smith, Zach Crane, Parker Omer and Jacob Wood neutralized CA for most of the game. When CA was able to produce opportunities Brendan Ihm was up to the challenge and was able to save every shot that came his way. All the players contributed tonight as we utilized our complete bench. Great job by everyone tonight.
Owosso 1, Laingsburg 0 – In another hard fought battle with the Laingsburg Wolf Pack tonight. The Owosso Trojans prevailed with a 1-0 victory. Owosso improves to 5-1 on the season. Brendan Ihm had his fourth shutout of the season and Sam Roose scored his third goal with an assist from Adam Dahl. Laingsburg outshot Owosso 9-7. Roose capitalized on a free kick inside the box when the Laingsburg defender passed it back to the goalie and he picked up the ball. Adam Dahl tipped the ball to Roose who buried a laser in the bottom left corner. Brendan Ihm came through with some solid saves in the second half to preserve the shutout. Parker Omer hit a banger of a shot from 25 yards out that could have iced the win but the Laingsburg keeper made an outstanding save. Once again our back line of Trajan Smith, Zach Crane, Parker Omer, Michael Snow and Jacob Wood played a fantastic technical defensive game. The chemistry back there is simply amazing.
