Waverly High School
Owosso High School
The difference of the game tonight was found at the free throw line. The Trojans shot 100% from the line but unfortunately, they only shot one free throw. The Warriors outscored the Trojans 14-1 from the charity stripe as the Warriors made 21 trips to the line to the Trojans one. The Trojans tried to make up for the discrepancy from beyond the arc making a season high nine three point shots.
The first quarter saw the Trojans falling behind 7-0 before they were able to get on the board with a basket by Jordan Klapko. The Trojans however were never able to get the lead closer than eight points.
The second quarter saw the Trojans outscoring the Warriors 10-6 while holding the Warriors to only two field goals.
The third quarter saw the most scoring of the night with both teams scoring 17 points. The Warriors opened the third quarter with a made 3-point basket to extend the lead to seven points but Jakob Ackley followed up the possession with a 3-point basket of his own. The Trojans were able to as close two points at 29-27 when Jordan Klapko hit one of his game high four 3-point baskets. The Warriors then scored six unanswered points to stretch the lead to eight points. But the Trojans ended the quarter on an 8-4 run to end the quarter with a deficit of 39-35.
The game was tight most of the fourth quarter. With 2:50 to go in the game and the Warriors up 47-39, Drake Nover converted a layup and the only free throw of the game for Owosso to make it a 47-42 game. The Trojans would get no closer.
The Trojans continue play in the CAAC on Friday night vs St. Johns.
